He was born in 1920... I couldn't find any info saying he died, so if he's still kicking around, he would be 93 years old now.

Hi Ginny. Loving your posts. The book is looking delightful. Did you know though, that people can no longer follow your blog posts by adding their email. Blogger no longer allows subscriptions that way. Check out FeedBlitz or some other way to let people follow you via email. BTW I love Will Terry and the artists at Folio Academy. Okay so I just tested it out with the email thing using one of my other email addresses and it worked just fine. Also, I've submitted my email address to others' blogs and I still get emails every time they post. So I think it works okay still. I appreciate your concern though!!!

I checked too and found that I was not subscribed even in google. So went to google reader account and subscribed. I do still receive email notifications from blogs subscribed to, but there have been issues with new ones. Never received a confirmation for yours. May have just been a glitch, but thought you should know.

ReplyDeleteI share your enthusiasm for the art of Chu Teh-Chun. Unfortunately he died in March of this year.
After I got my Christie's catalog in the mail a little while ago, which had a lot of beautiful Chu Teh-Chun paintings in it (ASIAN 20TH CENTURY & CONTEMPORARY ART, art auction held in Hong Kong Nov 23 2014) I got intrigued by something I read in the "lot notes" of this particular painting (http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/paintings/chu-teh-chun-2121978-5853207-details.aspx#top).
A connection between Hubert Roestenburg and Chu Teh-Chun. I found some Hubert Roestenburg paintings online. What I didn't find is how these two (German Expressionist?) painters are connected. Since this page probably get frequented by Chu Teh-Chun enthusiasts, I was hoping one of your visitors might have the answer to this question.

ReplyDeleteHubert Roestenburg has long been one of my favorite painters. Chu Teh-Chun came to my attention through an article in the Wall Street Journal. They named him; one of the 7 hottest artists of the moment. Actually, it may have been Bloomberg News where I read about Chu Teh-Chun, I'm not sure.
Through a little bit of sleuthing I found out that Chu Teh-Chun visited Hubert Roestenburg exhibitions several times in the seventies and as late as 2006. I myself visited a Roestenburg exhibition in London in the nineties. That's where I fell in love with the work of Hubert Roestenburg. I even made a futile attempt to buy the painting that was on the poster, which to this day is still my favorite Roestenburg painting. Unfortunately I was not the only one interested in that particular painting, Regardless, it was out of my price-range. To get back to your question, I do not know whether Chu Teh-chun and Hubert Roestenburg were actually acquainted with each other.
Thank you for triggering some fond memories. I hope I have shed at least some light on Hubert Roestenburg and his possible connection to Chu Teh-Chun.
