YSYS: FINAL COVER

Okay I appreciate the votes SO much.  I have THE GREATEST support here and love you all for joining me and helping me out on this great, fun, and stressful adventure ;).  If I could bake you vitual cookies for you to pick off your screen on my blog, I would!

Here are the total votes tallied up:
  • Yellow and White tied - 16
  • Green - 12
  • Orange - 7
  • Red and Purple tied - 4
  • Blue - 3
  • Blue Green - 1

I read and reread all the comments and votes, played around a ton, and finally figured out what I wanted to do (unless I change it later... again).

I realized the "spottiness" is possibly what was too distracting, which is why yellow and white felt better to some. AND because the yellow is also a nice contrast to the purple (yellow and purple are complementary colors) and also a happy warm color. But, I needed some red/orange/purple to tie us back down to Hippo. So I went multicolored, and this is what I finished with at 12:30 am Saturday night! Hope you like...

So...

Personally... I'm SO tickled happy about this. Check out the amazing font the designer at Familius chose and how he placed it. Thanks, David Miles!

Yes, the animals are floating.  I'm not finished quite yet. But this was good enough for what Familius needed to show off this week to a committee.

I'm still deciding on how to resolve that floating thing. Possibly a vine or something.  Maybe just a change in color/value. We'll see.

Overall I'm really happy.  :)

Thanks again!!

  2. Looks great! I think the yellow is a good choice because your purple hippo is the star and the characters at the top all focusing on the hippo is a nice touch. Its not too obvious what is going to happen but there is something intriguing about the other characters smiling and the hippo being kind of worried and a little humble. The font also fits really well with your whimsical style. Remember to leave space for the 'Best-Seller' sticker!

    1. Thanks TJ that's a nice critique!! I'm glad you approve. I agree the font is perfect (I didn't pick it). I'm glad you pointed out Hippo's worried face and the way I portrayed all the characters with them looking down. I hoped that would tell a bit of the story... a nice intro to what's coming. :) Yeah?

      Thanks you're the best!!

  5. I'm so very excited to own a copy of this magnificent book, and to have the boys read it to me. Jake is an awe of what you've accomplished, and even has inspired him to get back to art work. I'm so very proud of you, and amazed at this journey, and how you've seemed to juggle everything, to work out. Amazed is the word definitely. Keep up the wonderful work, and I will anxiously await. Much love to you Ginny.

  6. Well there we are, the answer all along was...graded colours! I really like how it has turned out. Where does your inspiration come from? Can I have some?

I also remember a discussion months ago about the punctuation of the title, and am glad to see the comma and exclamation mark in there - they give just the right expression to the words. And the font is perfect. Well done! Can't wait to buy my own copy when it is finally published. Is it going to be soft or hard cover (or both)?

  7. Ginny, May I just say... you are amazing!!! I think very highly of your work. Rawson and I have talked about paying you to make a one page illustration of some sort for a poem we love. I have been waiting to talk to you about it till you seemed less busy with this book. We really think you do incredible work.

    Love you Ginny!

PS. I love the final background you put together.
